New year, new ideas
Each year when the clock strikes midnight on NYE, we welcome a new year and a fresh start.
Years ago before we purchased Robins Hollow, we started an annual ritual to reflect on all of the years’ accomplishments and dream about the next year by creating a vision board. It’s turned into one of our favorite traditions!
As I look back on what we accomplished in 2024, many of the projects we planned on were in fact completed! Crafting a handmade cellar door, finishing the kitchen, bathroom and porch punch lists and installing garden irrigation are all wrapped up.
Then, there were a few unplanned projects this past year. We nicknamed 2024 the year of water. In addition to the planned irrigation project, our water main broke from the well to the house, our hot water tank started leaking and the pond waterfall stopped flowing due to a blocked return water pipe; all of which we had to replace.
We hadn’t planned on any tree work in 2024. However, the large Linden tree that stood beside the driveway entrance got sick and needed to be taken down. Half of the base of the tree had rotted; it was a huge loss for the property.
There was a small silver lining to the loss of the Linden. We had the idea to keep some of the massive trunk for future woodworking projects. The idea came from an image we’d cut out and pinned to a cork board months prior, on our vision board.
Each year we take some time to imagine ourselves a year from now and collect images that resonate with our vision. Most of the time, the images are abstract and not a literal interpretation of a goal or project. We’ve find that often, those images do in fact manifest into our lives just like the Linden wood for Sean’s woodworking.

P.S. See if you can find the image that inspired us saving some of the Linden wood on last year’s vision board!
